Day 1: Equipment check, off-piste skiing technique with video analysis, avalanche safety in one of Innsbruck's ski areas.
Day 2: Depending on snow conditions, a day of skiing adventure will take place around Innsbruck.
Here I've described the classic Karwendel tour: The cable car takes you up to Seegrube and then on to Hafelekar, from where you can continue to the nearby Hafelekarspitz, where you can not only enjoy the first summit of the day but also enjoy an incredible view. "From there, there are several options: You can either ski straight into a steep gully here, or you can feel your way along a section of the Goetheweg and then ski down the north side. And there, a new world reveals itself." It is the world of the wild Karwendel: With the town behind you and a view far into the surrounding valleys, a majestic, rugged, yet incredibly graceful high alpine mountain world spreads out before you. A steep, approximately ten-meter-long gully leads you down into breathtakingly beautiful ski terrain.
The next destination is the saddle of the Mandlscharte and Arzlerscharte. The climb to the Mandlscharte is steep, requiring hairpin turns. There are about 20 hairpin turns to negotiate up to the gap. At the top, the reward is: a beautiful, wide gully leads southeast-facing back to Hungerburg. The basic route of this alpine-urban ride, as I call it, can be extended considerably. "You're practically in no man's land at the back of the Karwendel. You can spend hours moving through the terrain here—climbing, descending, cruising along." From the Pfeis, for example, you can ski down over the Stempeljoch to the Halltal. One important thing for the Karwendel tour, however, is that you need a certain level of head for heights.
